TIAA recently completed its first year supporting the Girls in Tech Mentorship Program. Designed to encourage the education and empowerment of women in the tech and entrepreneurship fields, Girls in Tech (GIT) is a global nonprofit with more than 100,000 members focused on closing the gender gap in technology careers.
“At TIAA we understand the barriers that women seeking careers in tech face,” said Tieisha Smith, Managing Director of Tech Partnerships. “We know innovation flourishes when we have a variety of perspectives at the table. That’s why it is important to level the field and make entry accessible for all. We are honored to partner with Girls in Tech for this incredible mentorship program and are excited to unlock more opportunities for women in STEM.”
The mentorship program ran from June through September. There were 271 mentees and TIAA provided 133 mentors. Offered primarily to young and mid-career professionals, mentees were all women with an affiliation to Girls in Tech and the majority had careers in technology.
TIAA’s collaboration with GIT now extends beyond the mentorship program to the Girls in Tech Conference, which brings together women in stem from across the world to refine their skills, advance their careers, and learn how to leverage technology to drive change. TIAA also supports the GIT Hackathon, a competition where members will work to find the most innovative solutions to the climate’s biggest challenges such as sustainability, climate change, and deforestation.
