For systematic withdrawals, visit the status of loans/withdrawalsOpens in a new window page and look for withholding information under ongoing transactions.
For ongoing Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) payments, tax information may be available on your profileOpens in new window page or on the status of loans/withdrawals page depending on the type of payment established.
Yes. Voluntary elections can be made, and you can choose a flat dollar amount or a fixed percentage of the taxable portion of your payment.
To submit your instructions, print and mail in your completed withholding form(s) located on the tax forms list.
As a non-resident alien, your distribution may be subject to tax withholding based on the treaty rates between the U.S. and the country in which you reside.
If a valid W-8BEN Certificate of Foreign Status of Beneficial Owner for United States Tax Withholding and Reporting (Individuals) form is not received, the payment will be taxed at a rate of 30%.
If you claim residence and citizenship outside of the U.S., you must have certified your foreign tax status by providing IRS Form W-8BEN within the last 3 years. To print the W-8BEN form, go to TIAA.org/formsOpens in a new window and select Find tax information.
The residential address will dictate any applicable state taxes withheld.
