Risa Palm is Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Georgia State University. Her quote on the University’s website, "Our university is a vital contributor to the economic and cultural life of our region," reflects her combined dedication to both higher education and the vitality of the communities in which these institutions reside, as demonstrated in her previous positons with the University of North Carolina and Louisiana State University.

Palm’s research focuses on urban geography and includes work on natural hazards response and urban housing. She has served on panels and committees for both the National Science Foundation and the National Academy of Sciences. She is a past chair of the Council on Academic Affairs for the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities (APLU), with which she continues to hold board appointments. Palm earned a B.A. in History, a B.S. in Social Studies Education, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Geography, all from the University of Minnesota.
