PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Co-founder, Case Shiller Weis, Inc., in 1991; co-developed repeat-sales home price indices with Karl E. Case, now published as the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices.
  • Two-time recipient of the TIAA Paul A. Samuelson Award (1996 and 2009).
  • Awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences jointly with Eugene Fama and Lars Peter Hansen, 2013.

Robert J. Shiller is Sterling Professor of Economics, Department of Economics and Cowles Foundation for Research in Economics, Yale University, and Professor of Finance and Fellow at the International Center for Finance, Yale School of Management. He also writes a regular column,  "Finance in the 21st Century," for Project Syndicate, and "Economic View" for The New York Times. Shiller has been a research associate for the National Bureau of Economic Research since 1980, and was elected president of the American Economic Association for 2016.

Shiller’s writing covers topics including the financial markets, financial innovation, behavioral economics, macroeconomics, real estate, statistical methods, and public attitudes, opinions, and moral judgments regarding markets. Shiller authored Finance and the Good Society, which was published in 2012 (Princeton University Press) and served as co-author of other work. He received his B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1967 and his Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1972.
