PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Served as the executive director of the New Jersey Institute for Collegiate Teaching and Learning.
  • Author or coauthor of many publications, including The American Faculty: The Restructuring of Academic Work and Careers and The Faculty Factor in American Higher Education.
  • Served as a Fulbright Senior Specialist at the University of Hong Kong, studying the transition from a three- to four-year baccalaureate degree.

Martin Finkelstein is professor of higher education at Seton Hall University. He previously taught at the University of Denver and Teacher’s College, Columbia University. He also has been a visiting lecturer at Wuhan University, China, and visiting scholar at the Claremont Graduate University and the Research Institute for Higher Education, Hiroshima University, Japan.

Finkelstein has been instrumental in documenting the faculty demographic and appointments revolution and questioning the implications for faculty careers, the nature of academic work, the research enterprise, and students’ educational experiences. He earned his B.A. in French at Columbia University and Ph.D. in higher education from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
